I am Russ Rainbolt and I am really driven to paint.
I love reading comics, the classics, the older weirder than classics and stuff that Neanderthals wrote before they knew what they were doing.
THE DRAWING BOARD! Springboard of ideas. Testing point for whether or not I want to go with one image or another. This sketch was started when I was sitting at ROCKIN’ JUMP, an indoor inflated balloon park full of slides and trampolines and shrieking monsters 9 years old and under. The noise made the art easy. Just pour that insane feeling into that face and BOOM!
The problem was I made it too big for my sheet of paper. That used to ALWAYS HAPPEN.
COMIC CON COMMISSIONS. Given a few months before a convention, I have received either commissions for paintings or ideas about the stars honored at the Cons! The inspiration hits and the painting begins!

Off to Infinity. This mural was commissioned for the Columbian Restaurant in New Haven, in order to understand the illusion the second pic has a light line drawn so that you can see where the floor stops and the wall begins.
When I painted the Hulk, I could feel the rage coursing through my brush with every stroke. The vibrant greens and deep shadows seemed to pulse with an energy of their own, embodying the sheer power and fury of the iconic character. Each layer of paint captured not only his formidable presence but also the complex emotions that defined him. As I focused on the details, from the clenched fists to the furrowed brow, I understood the visceral connection that fans have with the Hulk; he is the embodiment of raw emotion, a figure of strength that mirrors the RAGE within us all.
